If you have a pulse and have opened social media in the last year , you have probably heard about Twenty One Pilots (stylized twenty | one | pilots). Whether you've heard your friends saying "You have got to hear this band" or you've seen countless tweets about their MTV awards preformance, one thing is for sure; they are everywhere. Now what is so special about this two piece from Columbus? Is it the unique mix of genres? Or is it perhaps the thrilling live shows in which drummer Josh Dunn can be seen doing a backflip? Well the answer is a little bit of both; yes they have extremely unique music and over that they have incredible live shows. But what makes Twenty One Pilots really special is how much they care about their fans. Their fan group dubbed the Skeleton Clique is not a fan club but a family. Throughout all of Twenty One Pilots career they have had lyrics full of thought, emotion, and most of all compassion. With lyrics like "Stay alive, stay alive for me", and "Friend, please don't take your life from me" Tyler Joseph has started a cult of compassion and it has clearly echoed through the fanbase. I'm part of a fan group on facebook called the Skeleton Clique and it is genuinly filled with the most loving, and friendly individuals you will ever meet. I've seen numerous stories on this page where people share how Twenty One Pilots saved their lives, and I've come to notice that because Twenty One Pilots care about the fans the fans can then care for eachother. This is so beautifully true as you see many posts daily from people struggling and the comment section is filled with nothing but love. It truly is what community is all about; love, compassion, friendship, and support. The world needs more bands like Twenty One Pilots, and the world needs more fans like the Skeleton Clique. The entire clique is a prime example of what music can and should be used for; others to use it through struggles and pain, to be there for one another through everything, and to make people think. Which in my opinion is way more interesting than strippers on a pole or cheerleaders.
