Vinyl Theatre And Synth-Lead Punk

Now before I start let me say that punk has changed drastically since the days of The Clash and The Ramones or more recently since Blink-182, Green Day, and Jimmy Eat World. These days, punk is very loosely associated with bands like Paramore and many other alternative pieces on the Punk label FueledByRamen (many of which are far from punk such as Twenty One Pilots, Fun, and Travie McCoy). With FBR still being an alternative label with punk roots they occasionally bring in a soft punk band such as Vinyl Theatre. Vinyl Theatre has a unique pop sound with evident punk roots. They are fairly new, having only formed in 2012 and recently garnered success due to a major record signing as well as supporting world-famous Twenty One PIlots on tour. Although they are young, they are musically mature and write beyond catchy riffs and melodies. Synth-lead punk will most definitely be making a return if Vinyl Theatre continues to gain succes as a flood of similar bands should follow. I highly recommend this band and without dragging on further here are my top five favourite songs by Vinyl Theatre.
1. Gold: Vinyl Theatres first succesful single, with aggressive drums, a catchy guitar hook and reflective lyrics this song is bound to have you rocking along.
2. Breaking Up My Bones: The most well known song by Vinyl Theatre and rightfully so, the chorus will have you shouting at the top of your lungs "It's breaking up my bo-ones" and enjoying this well written radio friendly masterpiece.
3. If You Say So: In some ways a mirror to Gold but in a good way. The song captures the same essence in aggressive drums and a well written melody. This is signature Vinyl Theatre sound.
4. Summer: A change in pace of the other songs, it features less pop and punk but more of an electro-alternative feel. A similar feel to many songs you may hear on spotifies alternative radio but still refreshingly unique.
5. I Need You Here: An upbeat alternative jam that will have you surely adding it to your spotify playlist with bands like Passion Pit, The Naked And Famous, Foster the People, and Paramore.
What should Vinyl Theatre do from here on out? Continue to tour and open for bigger acts, develop a unique sound but also expand their style to avoid sounding repetitive (Gold and If You Say So). All in all a great band that deserves a decent following in the alternative scene.
