The Chainsmokers have taken the music world by storm. I shouldn't have to tell you who they are but just in case you haven't been on social media for the last six months The Chainsmokers are a DJ duo from New York who have garnered major international success in the music industry with hit songs such as Closer featuring Halsey, #Selfie, and Don't Let Me Down. They are currently the second most listened to artist in the world on Spotify with over 35 million monthly listeners. Being a worldwide phenomenon Chainsmokers recently released an EP titled the Collage EP and this is a quick review to give you a taste of this great release!
Setting Fires featuring XYLO: This is a strong opening track. A great melody that carries the verse followed with a chill beat and some clean synths. The chorus has a typical Chainsmokers breakdown. A great first song.
All We Know featuring Phoebe Ryan: Opened with guitar and a catchy melody featuring a male and female singing the melody together a la mode Oh Wonder. I'm a huge fan of the verse although the pre-chorus before the drop sounds way to much like Closer but I guess that is their typical sound. Great verse, okay prechorus and breakdown.
Closer featuring Halsey: The huge chart topping single Closer features and insanely catchy melody and some extremely tasteful beats synchronized with a meaty synth. One of the best EDM-Alternative tracks released in a long time. The strong lead synth carries both the rythm and melody in a harmonious effect with Halseys always compelling vocals. The gem of the EP.
Inside Out featuring Charlie: This verse echoes alternative bands such as Coasts, Phantogram, and others. It keeps building tension until the signature Chainsmokers build and drop. In my opinion this is the best breakdown the Chainsmokers have released. This strong is extremely strong and deserves a lot of credit.
Don't Let Me Down featuring Dara: Another chart topping song. This song has yet again a groovy breakdown and features an alternative verse built until an EDM chorus. This song is extremely okay. I quite enjoy it but at times Chainsmokers get repetitive and this is definitely a weaker song than Closer and Inside Out.
Conclusion:
Listen to Chainsmokers! They are a unique duo that creates their own sound. At times it can get repetitive but the EP is strong and definitely worth a listen.
